Why We Started Tree to Tub 🌳

You might be wondering why we started Tree To Tub. Well, Brian was my best friend in college and after graduating from Berkeley, we both moved on to working at comfortable corporate jobs.

They paid well, but at the end of the day, we felt like something was obviously missing. We didn’t wake up with passion every day...

We knew that deep down, we wanted to work on meaningful things that make positive impacts. Brian has always been passionate about organic farming, and I never forgot about the soapberry...

I knew that millions of people suffer from different types of skin problems, just like me, and that there were no good, natural products available for them. Why not share the soapberry with the world?

You’ll never guess what we did next… After I proposed to Brian the idea of soapberry, we both got excited, maybe a bit too excited... we quit our jobs the next day...

We lost our income, our parents were not happy, and we had no idea what it meant to start a business!

From how to extract the soapberry to how to set up a new company, we had no idea. We were burning through our savings, and to save money, we even moved into a tiny, freezing basement!

Finally, after months of trial and error, we developed the prototypes of our dreams - soapberries in a bottle, along with botanicals like aloe vera, olive leaves, shea butter, and etc. An extremely gentle, wash that nicely, leaves skin & hair smooth and soft with no residue. We knew we had a winner!

There was one catch though, to produce our 1st batch of products, we would need $10,000, and by this time, we had spent all of our money on research and developing the prototypes...

Check out our next part in this series to find out what we did to get the $10,000 goal (legally)!
